Volunteer with Sing Me a Story Foundation

Sing Me a Story is a program where we turn stories told by children in adverse circumstances into personalized songs. How it works is we give kids in need around the world the chance to write and illustrate stories about anything that they want. We then distribute those stories to songwriters who turn them into songs, record them, and send them back to the kids and their families via our program. Check out some of our songs here!

This is our way of bringing a voice to the so-often voiceless, and hopefully providing a little sunshine and healing to the children’s lives.

Sing Me A Story is a 501(c)3 and absolutely no cost to our partner organizations. We work with over 3,000 songwriters, and have partnered with over 110 organizations, serving children in need around the world. We have been featured by the The Today Show, People Magazine, and an ever-growing number of other local media outlets.

So how do you fit into the picture?

We are looking for those with a passion for service, kids, and music to be able to help as we grow! As a volunteer for the Sing Me A Story Foundation, you will help our partner organizations (the Ronald McDonald House Portland) facilitate story writing activities for the children and families they serve. You will do this by being able to explain to parents how our program works, distributing materials out to the kids, helping kids brainstorm and figure out what they want to write and illustrate, and then submitting those stories online via email. It’s easy, a lot of fun, and, most of all, has a positive impact on the kids and families.

Requirements

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • Monthly Story-writing Session (approx. 2 hours)
  • Smart phone with camera & email for story-submission

This is a great resume builder, a great way to fulfill any community service requirements needed for organizations or school, and an all-around good way to give back.
