Centro Cultural Children’s Day is coming up. Centro Cultural of Washington County in collaboration with the Cornelius Public Library is sponsoring the 13th Annual Children’s Day Celebration on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Echo Shaw Elementary School in Cornelius from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be opportunities to volunteer throughout the day. Participate in creating a sustainable Forest Grove! At the 3rd Sustainability Summit we will be crafting action plans that reflect the collaboration and feedback from the 2013 Annual Town Hall Meeting and the 2 previous Sustainability Summits. Topics for action plans include:
· Green building
· Renewable energy
· Recycling and solid waste
· Social equity
All community members are welcome to this event; no prior attendance is necessary. The 3rd Sustainability Summit will be an exciting and valuable time for your input!

Give & Go Donation Volunteer Station Attendant (Note: this opportunity takes place during and after exams, and therefore might not count for civic engagement class hours. Please see your instructor for approval).
Work as a member of the Give & Go team to help Pacific students decrease waste by donating unwanted items during move-out. These items are then donated to non-profit organizations in western Washington County. Specific duties include: greeting students at donation stations; helping students sort the items they want to donate; disseminating information about what can and cannot be donated; helping students bring items to PODs; moving donated items from donation bins to specified location in POD; disseminating information about community partners; helping community partners move items from POD to vehicles; representing Pacific University in a cheerful, helpful, informative way. Required Qualifications: Commitment to civic engagement demonstrated through volunteering, coursework, or other activities; excellent oral communication skills; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; ability to lift 25 lbs. and be physically active for shift duration. Desired Qualifications: Availability for optional 1 hour training on April 28th or May 5th, 2013 and ability to commit to a minimum of 4 hours of work between May 10-15; customer service experience; recycling knowledge; current Residence Hall resident.
