CALC, aka the Community Alternative Learning Center, is part of Forest Grove High School, but they have their own campus where they serve over 100 students who have struggled in the traditional high school setting for a variety of reasons. They provide the resources and support they need to either transition back to the high school or earn their diploma at the alternative program.
At this point, their biggest needs are:
1) More support in the classroom. Though their curriculum demands independent learning, many of their students struggle on their own.
2) Support at lunch time to coordinate outdoor or indoor activities that they offer for those students who arrive to school on time that day.
3) Support every two weeks for their Friday Free time which they offer to students who’ve had perfect attendance for those two weeks.
To have people from the community make the effort to connect with the students and work with them can make a huge difference in how they see themselves and their futures!
